ALEXANDER IMRIE - JANET HOWIE

ALEXANDER IMRIE was born in Kincardine, Perthshire, on the 6th of December 1831. (OPR Ref. 364/2, FR?)

Son of Alexander Imrie and Janet Millar.

Alexander is probably at Birkenshaw Farm, Eastwood, on the 1851 census. His mother's name is given as 'Margaret', but all the other information seems to tie in with what is known about his family. At the time of his marriage in 1861 his address is given as 'Birkingshaw, Eastwood'.

JANET HOWIE was born in Mearns, Renfrewshire. No record of her birth can be found in the OPR. Her year of birth may be anywhere between 1835 (according to the 1841 Census) and 1840 (1881 Census). 1838 seems most likely.

Daughter of Robert Howie and Isabella Craig. Her marriage certificate gives her father's name as Allan Howie.

Janet is possibly at Cleuch Farm, Eastwood, on the 1841 and 1851 census. She is living with John and Jean Craig, employed as a Servant, and is described as a 'niece'. However, it is possible that she is actually the Craig's grand-daughter.

At the time of Janet's marriage in 1861, her address is given as 'Sheddens, Cathcart'.

Alexander and Janet were married at Sheddens on the 31st of December 1861.

Witnessed by James Jackson and David Imrie.

Officiated by James Dick of Busby, Mearns.

Alexander and Janet are at Stewartfield Farm, Blantyre, on the 1881 and 1891 census. Janet is at the neighbouring Hartfield Farm buildings on the 1901 census.
