ALEXANDER IMRIE was born in Thornhill, Kincardine, Perthshire in 1795 (Ref. 1851 Census). His eldest son is named James, so this may have been his father's name.
JANET MILLER was born at Touch Farm in the parish of St. Ninian's, Stirlingshire, and baptised on the 3rd of January, 1795. (Transcribed from OPR Ref. 488/4, FR1386)
Daughter of John Miller and Margaret Leckie.
Alexander and Janet were married in Kincardine on the 12th of January, 1823. (Transcribed from OPR Ref. 364/2, FR307)
Alexander and Janet are resident in Norriestown in the parish of Kincardine on the 1841 census. Alexander's occupation is given as 'Farmer'. Norriestown has a total population of about 105 people, mostly Agricultural Labourers, but Alexander is the only resident listed under 'Farmer'.
Alexander and Janet are probably at Birkenshaw Farm, Eastwood, on the 1851 census. Alexander's wife's name is given as 'Margaret', but all the other information seems to tie in with what is known about his family. In addition, at the time of his son Alexander's marriage in 1861 his address is given as 'Birkingshaw, Eastwood', and on the 1851 census, one John Miller from Stirlingshire is present, identified as 'Grandfather'.
Janet is at Auchenback Farm, Neilston, on the 1881 census, living with another son, John (see below).
